If you are thinking about installing solar on your roof then you will not only need solar panels but also inverters & batteries. The 1st question came to your mind, what size inverter do I need for solar panels? Well what I’m about to tell you is the most important thing you need to remember when designing any solar system, every component you buy, and every decision you make, regarding your solar system revolves around the idea of knowing how much power you need to power the appliances that you want.

To size your inverter size you need to do a simple math. Well I’m gonna go ahead and tell you right now.

At 1st:

You need to fix which appliances you are going to use. As an example if you are going to use Laptop, Lights, Freez etc calculate their total watt per hour. Most probably the Laptop consumes 100 watt, freez 1000 watt and lights approximately 100 watt. So let’s do the simple math.

Laptop 100 watt

Freeze 1000 watt

Lights 1000 watt

Total :2100 watt

So you are going to burn 2100 watt per hour based on your usages.

Secondly:

You need to calculate how many hours you want to use them. As per examples, if you are going to use your laptops for 4 hour, freez 6 hour and the light will be 8 hour then the result will be-

Laptop 100 watt * 4= 400

Freez 1000 watt * 6= 6000

Lights 1000 watt * 8= 8000

Total :14400 watt

So you are going to burn 14400 watt per day based on your usages.

Finally:

You can take an inverter which has a minimum 5 kw. Because the solar panel is maximum of 25% power efficient and we also lose some power from the inverter.

So you need at least 15–22 solar panels that can produce approximately 300 watt from the sun rays and 5kw solar inverter as per this usages and calculation.
