Did you take part in our Twitter polls for Safer Internet Day 2018? We had some pretty interesting results! In this blog, we are going to round up your opinions, reveal the correct answer and explain why that was the right option. Overall, what did we learn from your answers? You’re very switched on and know your stuff around internet safety!

Poll #1:

Poll #1

The correct answer is: Block and delete!

Why?

Your bank will never ask you to confirm details via email. They would always call you or send a letter to your registered address. One easy way to check if it is really your bank is to look at the email address to see if it collates with your banks name.

Can you decipher which email is spam?

We would recommend calling your bank as soon as possible to report the email and blocking the email address to ensure you don’t receive any more spam which could put your computer or device at risk. Changing your email password is also a good way of making sure you are super secure.

Poll #2:

Poll #2

The correct answer is: True!

Why?

It is in fact legal to use file sharing sites. Many people choose to share their work online, but it is illegal to download copyrighted materials such as the latest blockbuster or best-selling album. Downloading such items is an illegal offence that you can be prosecuted for. It can carry a 5-year prison sentence. Is that really worth getting to watch a new film for free? We don’t think so!

Poll #3:

Poll #3

The correct answer is: 13!

Why?

Surprisingly the legal age is 13. However, you must still get your parents or guardians consent to use such websites. To be super safe, it is a good idea to give your parent or guardian your password to your accounts so they can ensure it is a safe environment for you to be on.

Did any of these statistics surprise you? Did you get any wrong? We would love to hear from you. Tweet us your thoughts at @CyberDiscUK!

Remember Safer Internet Day is a day to remind us all to create, connect and respect our online world!
