The Virtualizer Stand-Alone Module for using Cyberith’s VR Treadmill with standalone VR Headsets without a PC
We are officially launching the Virtualizer Stand-Alone Module (VirtSAM), a modular add-on device for wirelessly using the Virtualizer VR Treadmills with standalone VR Headsets like the Quest 2, Vive Focus 3, Quest Pro, Pico 4, etc.
The Virtualizer Stand-Alone Module has been designed for using the Virtualizer in combination with standalone VR Headsets without using a Windows Computer, i.e. the application running on the VR Headset itself.
On the contrary, the VirtSAM is not required for streaming PC-VR applications to standalone VR Headsets (f.ex. “Oculus Link”, “Oculus Air Link”, “Vive Business Streaming”, etc.).
Streaming PC-VR content to standalone VR Headsets works completely independently of the Virtualizer. To use a Virtualizer in combination with any form of PC-based VR (including wireless streaming of PC-VR content to standalone headsets), the Virtualizer is connected to the PC by USB as usual.
The Virtualizer Stand-Alone Module is a touchscreen-based module, that can be mounted on a pillar of the Virtualizer.
The system, that’s compatible with all models of the Virtualizer, fulfills the following core functionalities:
- The VirtSAM connects the Virtualizer to a standalone VR Headset (Quest 2, etc.) wirelessly via Bluetooth
- It enables to manage connections and settings through the touchscreen interface, without requiring a PC
- Its integrated browser allows to cast the VR-view to the screen for web-casting enabled VR Headsets like the Quest 2.
Please understand, that the VirtSAM targets customers that are creating their own content, using our SDK.
Our SDK-Plugins for Unity and Unreal Engine have been updated in order to support the Virtualizer Stand-Alone Module and Android-based standalone VR Headsets. All required add-on plugins, related instructions and demo applications come with the product.
We continue to recommend PC-based VR (SteamVR) to those clients, that want to use the Virtualizer in combination with pre-existing applications. For using the Virtualizer with non-native appliations (applications without a Cyberith SDK implemented), we recommend taking a look at the Virtualizer SteamVR Driver.
