5miles, a leading online and mobile marketplace, and popular NBA basketball team, the Dallas Mavericks, just announced a new co-branded and commuity partnership. As part of the three-year deal, Mavs forward Harrison Barnes will serve as 5miles’ brand ambassador in the community.

In addition to exclusive Mavs promotions within the 5miles app and during games, 5miles will enable Mavs fans to purchase tickets with CyberMiles Tokens (CMT). Beginning in the 2018–19 season, the Dallas Mavericks will be one of the first teams in the NBA to accept various forms of cryptocurrency for tickets and merchandise.

“We’re lucky to partner with [5miles] that is innovative and growing exponentially,” Cuban said. “We’re also excited that the Mavs brand can now accept payment for single and season tickets through their CyberMiles blockchain technology.”

At yesterday’s press conference announcing the Mavs-5miles parnership, Cuban went on to discuss at lenght how cryptocurrency works and why the 5miles app is a fit with his organization, particularly CMT.

“Implementing [blockchain technology] into a marketplace app allows us to sell to our fans more securely,” Cuban added. “And for those people who are committed to cryptocurrency — whether you see it as a store of value, whether you see it is as a gamble, whether you see it as the future (and the same with tokens) — we want to be able to allow people to transact business how they want, when they want, where they want.”

“We’ll accept some of the major ones — Bitcoin, Ethereum — in our payment gateway,” Cuban concluded. “But we really wanted to lead the way in accepting CMT as the first token because of the incredible utility that it has.”

5miles and the Mavs also will collaborate on ‘Entrepreneurial Expedition,’ a program that guides students through their personal journey to become an entrepreneur. 5miles will work with Mark Cuban and the Mavs to expand the program, launched in 2017, to dozens of schools over the next three years.
