Introducing ‘Travis,’ the CyberMiles TestNet
Our Vision
The CyberMiles project aims to build a public blockchain and a smart contract platform optimized for e-commerce applications. Our worldview is that the world needs many blockchains, each optimized for a specific application protocol. There is no one-size-fits-all blockchain.
From our deep roots in Open Source software, we understand the importance of collaborating with others to eliminate platform lock-in, and of building a larger network. The CyberMiles blockchain platform will be fully compatible with Ethereum and the upcoming Cosmos network — so that application developers can freely move code and even crypto assets across blockchains. Specifically, our long-term technical goals are as follows.
- Full compatibility with Ethereum, yet significantly optimized for e-commerce use cases.
- Language-level and Virtual Machine-level extension to the Ethereum smart contract platform to support complex e-commerce contracts.
- Token asset interoperability with other blockchains.
Meet Travis
In our first release of the CyberMiles TestNet, code-named Travis, we focus on the #1 goal above. CyberMiles’ Travis TestNet provides a strong alternative to Ethereum, especially for e-commerce use cases.
- It is fully compatible with Ethereum and can run all Ethereum smart contracts and Decentralized Applications (DApps). Yet it is 100 times faster than Ethereum. [Learn more]
- It is safer than Ethereum. The CyberMiles blockchain proactively stops common smart contract bugs that had caused loss of fund on Ethereum. And if a loss of funds still occurs, CyberMiles supports an on-chain governance process to transparently recover the fund through community consensus. [Learn more]
- It is more user-friendly and cheaper to use than Ethereum. The CyberMiles blockchain waives transaction fees for most common operations. It achieves this without sacrificing security of the network. [Learn more]
Gain Access
The Travis TestNet currently has seven validator nodes around the world. The number of validator nodes grows as the community grows because validators are selected by the community through the staking process. There are several options to deploy your own Travis TestNet nodes.
All our software is Open Source and available from Github. You are welcome to run a full node and make yourself a validator candidate. To prevent scams, spam, false advertising, conflict of interests, and network degradation, the CyberMiles Foundation has a vetting process for validators to ensure that the community members have the accurate information before voting/staking for validators. Subsequently, all validator candidates are voted up by the community to become an official validator.
In the Travis TestNet, however, we don’t enforce those governance rules just yet. Simply get in touch and ask to become a validator.
What’s Next?
After the Travis TestNet goes online, we will be working on some very interesting features to enhance the CyberMiles blockchain beyond what Ethereum can do. For starters, we are building a highly optimized and enterprise-ready virtual machine to support many business contracts out of the box at a very high performance. We also are working on bringing in Ethereum assets onto our blockchain — not to hard fork the Ethereum blockchain, but in a collaborative manner so that assets can be exchanged easily across blockchains. Why Travis?
The code names of CyberMiles TestNets are to honor heroes of the Texas Revolution. They are to acknowledge our roots in Texas, and the revolutionaries and misfits who changed history.
William B. Travis is a commander of the Republic of Texas and a lieutenant colonel in the Texas Army. He died at the Battle of Alamo, where he famously wrote the letter, ‘Victory or Death.’
