Dread is a dark web forum that serves as a platform for users to discuss various topics, primarily focusing on darknet marketplaces and related subjects. It was created by Hugbunter, a well-known security expert and penetration tester as a replacement for the infamous Reddit darknet markets subs, which were banned in 2018.

Dread follows a forum structure similar to Reddit. Users can create posts, comment on existing threads, and upvote or downvote content. It provides a simple and user-friendly interface, making it easy for participants to navigate.

When we talk about Dread, it’s important to understand its scale. As of our latest information:

  • Dread hosts 2,032 different communities
  • These communities function similarly to subreddits on Reddit
  • The largest community, ‘/d/Dread’, boasts 372,578 subscribers

To put this into context, that’s a significant user base for a dark web platform. While not comparable to mainstream social media, these numbers indicate that Dread is far from a niche site within its ecosystem. The variety of communities shows the diverse interests of Dread users, ranging from technology discussions to more controversial topics. It’s worth noting that the actual user base might be larger, as many may browse without subscribing. A screenshot of these statistics can be seen further down.
