New Instagram Crypto Scam That’s Too Good to Be True

7 min readAug 3, 2024

--

A couple of days ago, I received a message request on Instagram that caught my attention — and I’m not ashamed to admit it was the simplicity of the message that piqued my interest. As someone who’s usually quite diligent about ignoring unsolicited messages, I must say that this one slipped through my defences. I’ll share a screenshot with you in a moment, and you’ll see what I mean by its understated approach.

Out of curiosity, I decided to do some digging and run the website mentioned in the message through VirusTotal and th4ts3cur1ty.company’s DracoEye to get a better understanding of what I was dealing with. I always believe in doing one’s due diligence, especially when it comes to potential online threats. After all, it’s always better to be safe than sorry — and I’m about to share with you what I found out.

So as Promised, here’s the message below:

That’s the entirety of the message — just a single domain and what appears to be a username and password. For obvious reasons, I’ve obscured these sensitive credentials and the URL for now, but rest assured that they will be revealed in due course as this story unfolds. I want to ensure that I’m being responsible in how I share this information, while also providing enough detail to paint a clear picture of what’s going on.
