And it is not about burying your head in the sand…

… It is about the consequence.

When it comes to information security incident response many organizations still have the tendency to bury their head in the sand. The problem with that is not so much the head buried in the sand, it is about the consequence. When you bury your head in the sand something else is sticking up in the air waiting for someone to kick it. You will not see it coming and your reputation might be kicked along with it. In today's world customers rarely give you a second chance after a information security breach damaged your reputation.

To overcome this paralysis organizations need to develop and implement end-to-end emergency response processes. This will help them to deal with incidents before, during and after they take place. This is not easy but you have to start, carve out your strategy and implement it. Start today; select and forge the team, implement the processes and the right tools.

Demonstrating preparedness will have a positive effect on your reputation. It will increase the trust customers have in your organization. Having these processes in place is mandatory for many organizations due to regulatory and compliancy requirements. When directed well, your efforts will increase awareness throughout your organization. You need the right processes & tools in place and access to the right people. This will make the difference when an incident occurs and save you money along the way. It is time to take your head out of the sand, get started and realize; the view is so much better!
