General Update
After dishing out a ton of updates over the month of March, as highlighted early on our Cosmos Project Spotlight series, the leading focus for this month has been getting things ready for a successful mainnet launch. With the validator group working hand in hand with Regen’s outstanding dev team on various testnet tasks we’re seeing more excitement build up over each phase.
Here’s a list on all that’s happened over the last two weeks
- Gregory Landua dishes out another awesome episode for the Planetary Regeneration Podcast.
- 4/1 the team hosted a Community Development call, check it out!
- 4/8 there was a very informal validator call hosted by the Regen team, and several other validators.
- A new testnet challenge has been announced that will run between 4/14 0200 UTC — 4/22 0200 UTC, this challenge is focused on building custom payout contracts for ecological credits.
4th IRIS Token Burn & IRISHub v0.16.2 Release
On the last day of March, the IRIS Foundation completed its 4th token burn to lower the total token supply to 2 billion IRIS tokens. With the completion of this burn we’ll see the foundation wrap up their one year token burning plan. Following the token burn, the IRISHub saw an update to v0.16.2. This release comes after a security patch issued by the Tendermint team for all validators and service providers within the ecosystem.
More highlights include
- IRISnet’s core dev team Bianjie won the First Developer Competition Award of China Blockchain Services Network (BSN).
- Blockchains in Cosmos ecosystem such as IRISnet and Kava are successfully connected with each other under IBC protocol.
Virtual Retreats, Grants, and More
On 4/17/20 Celo will kick off their virtual retreat for community members and those interested in experiencing their Prosper series. The Prosper series delivers a really interesting experience as those who attend can engage with the community unlike any way before. With many countries still in lockdown, this experience is catering to attendees having a stimulating discussion on how they would like to engage with the world and how they’d like to create a design that’d match such. I’m probably not the best one to break it all down for them, but I highly suggest you reserve your spot and take in a pretty unique community experience. Enjoy!
With the conclusion of Celo’s incentivized testnet in Q1 behind us, we’re seeing a growing interest in Celo from a development and community standpoint. Celo recently shared a writeup highlighting the recipients of their Grant Program. With over 700k distributed to these outstanding teams, we’re seeing the Celo team take initiative for outside development focused on building and growing the Celo ecosystem. From payment solutions to charitable tools, there’s quite an exciting bunch of grantees aiming to deliver some for the Celo community.
