In Vietnam, rice is a very popular food. The conditions in Vietnam make it very easy to make rice therefore it is a very common food to eat with other things such as beef stew. Beef stew is also a common dish in Vietnam and is often matched up with rice to make a good meal. In the book The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien a girl named Mary Anne was in her first days with the ARVNs and they taught her how to cook rice over a can of Sterno.

This was an easy way to have a quick meal during the war. Rice is a very filling food so they did not have to cook much of it. The beef stew is a good compliment to the rice for an complete meal. This is why they ate it so often.in the war. In conclusion, we feel that this was a tasty and easy meal to make and eat, and we truly enjoyed it.
