How Crypto Changes the Game for Generation Z
The year is 2018. Donald Trumpis president. Every day it becomes increasingly likely that Kylie Jenner willbe the next. Jet-packs are not ubiquitous but self-driving electric cars are. Our private living spaces have been invaded by emergent new life forms that answer to names like Siri and Alexa. One day soon they will become sentient.
The world is increasingly polarised. Left and right. Identity politics. The culture wars. The world is divided into those who can afford a $2000 iPhone and those who cannot.
Behind the scenes a revolution is building. New computer technology paradigms tend to emerge every 15 years. Mainframes in the 60s, PCs in the late 70s, the internet in the 90s and smartphones in thelate 2000s. Each triggered a disruptive new industry that changed everything. Blockchain and crypto will be next.
The last few decades have seen capitalism pull millions of people from poverty, buteven in abundant countries like the US, wages continue to fall. Keynes once said that, “Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone.” And that about sums it up. Capitalism is the engine that has driven the massive economic gains of the last century, yes, but the cracks are starting to show.
More than any other generation, Gen Z is frustrated with economic and social inequality, out of touch politicians and an economic system that exploits the planet. Every day, we ask ourselves “Is there another way?”
What if we could build a system where you’re allowed to act in your own best interests, and in doing so, you further strengthen the network as a whole for the benefit of everyone? Such a system exists, and we call it a blockchain. In the years ahead, a wave of increasingly imaginative implementationsof blockchain technology look set to transform the world. For the better.
As the world’s first true digital natives, Generation Z will shape the near future. Blockchain and crypto give us the levers to start shifting the balance of power, disrupt entire industries and make the world a better place.
