Illustrating Openness: Carla Torres

In the spirit of the season, we happened upon this lovely children’s book by writer Nat Jaspar and illustrator Carla Torres. Larry and Friends is about celebrating the differences in all of us and finding that we are all in this together. Carla Torres’ charming, beautiful illustrations create a whimsical New York City full of interesting creatures that come from all corners of the world, just as in real life.

The protagonist, Larry the Dog, is a hip juggler from Brooklyn. His friends are a bunch of fun, accomplished animals from all over the world.

We love the stylish illustrations that make it fun for children and for adults. And it has a perfect message for the times we live in.

Perhaps pictures can achieve what words strive to: tolerance, openness and compassion for everyone on Earth.
