Difference Between Nirvikalpa Samadhi and Moksha !!

Let us begin by trying to understand what really is nirvikalp Samadhi.

While doing deep meditation, when one loses the awareness of the body; and the information through the five senses is not coming through, one gets into a nirindriya (void of senses) state. In this state, very often, people have a mistaken belief that they have already ushered into the dimension which is beyond the senses i.e. the atiindriya or the nirvikalp state. But this is not true. The loss of bodily awareness cannot be called nirvikalp samadhi.

Such meditative state, where the awareness of the senses has got discarded, may last for some time and during this time, the meditator may experience unusual peace and happiness too, but its effect will soon wane off because this samadhi is not the real Samadhi. The state of Samadhi, once attained should remain constant and natural. But here, if a child comes and breaks his meditation, it immediately breaks his peace, and if someone were to remove his Guru’s picture, he would become quite restless and upset too. Moksha cannot be attained with such Samadhi.

One may become still for a while but very soon he will revert to the way he was before. And the major danger or risk in this type of Samadhi is the overgrowth of ego. Whenever one tries to do anything, the ego of doership increases, and…
