What is the science behind the “Rebirth”?

Many people do not believe in rebirth. However, they do use words like lucky-unlucky OR good luck-bad luck. Now, these words directly suggest rebirth, don’t they?… for on what basis would one person become lucky and another unlucky otherwise?

If there is nothing like rebirth and if it is God who has created everyone, then we all should be sharing the same luck. And moreover, we all should look identical and of the same mould. Why should one person be short and the other tall, one thin and another fat, one black the other white, one rich whereas the other a poor being?

But the fact is that from person to person, the differences do exist. And these differences that we see in our faces, actions and in our luck are a result of the different causes that each one has made in his past life. Or else why would a baby have to undergo suffering in the womb itself? This is because everyone has different causes and hence different effects, which come into being in the next birth, right from when one gets into the womb.

Because there is Soul, there is Punarjanma or rebirth…

The science behind rebirth can be understood only when one believes in the Soul. And only when we spiritually develop to a stage where we believe in rebirth, can we understand the science of the Omniscient Lords. When the body dies, it becomes lifeless isn’t it? From this one can easily deduce that there was life within earlier, which has now departed and gone elsewhere. This very life force is the Soul. And the moment one dies, the Soul immediately reaches its new destination where its rebirth is to take place.

No body has to take rebirth, it just happens. This whole universe functions automatically; everything in it just happens on its own on the basis of cause and effect. Where there is an effect there has to be a prior cause. Our present body is the effect of the causes of our past life. And the effects of this body produce new causes on account of attachment and abhorrence (raag- dwesh) resulting due to ignorance of really ‘Who am I’, which become seeds of karma for its next life. Upon death, the Soul along with the causal body and the electrical body departs, leaving behind the physical body, and at that same moment the causal body finds another effective body, and rebirth takes place.

The rebirth could be in any of the four life-forms: in heaven as a celestial being, on Earth as a human being, or in an animal form and lastly in hell as a devil. The causal body determines one’s place and life form of next birth. As are the causes, so are the effects. Good causes produce good effects and bad causes produce bad effects.

One cannot be free from these effects until the new causes stop. Birth in the human form is the only one where new causes get created. And this creation of new causes does not stop as long as there is ignorance of ‘Who am I’ i.e. as long as ‘I am John (the reader may insert his own name here)’ is engrained in our belief and our knowledge.

The causes can stop only and only when Gnani, the Enlightened One, awakens us and makes us realize our Soul, which is our true Self!!! In the process, Gnani destroys our causal body and gives us the cardinal principles, which when followed, keep us in awareness of Self and thereby exhaust the effects, one by one, without we being affected adversely by them.

Therefore no new seeds are sown thereafter; one has to experience the balance effects alone thereafter, for effects cannot be changed by anyone. The few effects that do not get finished in this life, get carried forward to our next birth which we will have to then finish. But after you know your Self, since the new causes stop, more and more birth and death will not occur.

The Self by its very nature is in a state of moksha; but because of our ignorance of the Self, we experience bondage. Dwelling in the non-Self (worldly things) leads to rebirth, while dwelling in the Self (engrossed in Soul) leads to liberation (moksha), within one or two lifetimes. The entity that desires worldly happiness has the right to rebirth and when worldly happiness is not desired anymore, we lose the right for a rebirth.

Human birth is invaluable…

The transmigration into all the four life forms stems only from the human form and it is also only from the human form that liberation is possible. Therefore, celestial beings too wish for a birth as a human being so that they can meet Gnani Purush and secure their liberation. Only after meeting a Gnani Purush can one break free, otherwise one is doomed to wander between the four different life forms and the cycle of birth, death and rebirth continues indefinitely. Human birth is attained with great difficulty! So come soon to Gnani, the One who can release you from all your bondages, and liberate you from the cycle of birth and rebirth forever!!
