Heath Taking a Brief Moment of Introspection While Brainstorming

Colton, Heath, and I had a successful, if not chaotic, brainstorming session in Orlando this weekend where we discussed the future of Dad Crate (a name we finally agreed upon after prolonged deliberation) and shared some mutual excitement, deliberation, and libations while hunkered down in Colton’s “idea hovel.”

Colton and Heath Measuring out Prototype Boxes

After Google searching “gifts for dad” and collectively scratching our heads as we sifted through the seemingly endless sea of bad ties, cheap mugs, and graphic tees that wouldn’t be touched in a thrift store, we knew our work was cut out for us. We all pledged that the end-game for our product was a collection of hyper-unique gift items hand selected by us (through extensive polling and research) to satisfy even the most picky dads in our lives. With this pledge taken by all three founders, we moved forward to the initial planning stages.

Heath adding to the Massive Glass Planning Board Which Accommodated Most of Our Early Ideas

We made websites, social media pages, and discussed crowdfunding options and products to use in the crates. We started discussing what sizes to use in the products we offered and how to make it worth while for the customer. Our goal was set for Father’s Day 2019 with a crowdfunding deadline of November 2018. We agreed that this would give us plenty of time to make sure that the crates were set and ready to go, even for a large quantity of backers and (hopefully)rapid funding on the crowdfunding platforms. The rest of our time was spent going through dozens of awesome products and working on a prototype from several different test boxes that we bought, painted, and placed mock items in to get a good idea of the dimensions and workability of each. We also realized our painting skills need significant work, best left to the professionals we surmised.

When We Agree on Something

We left the meeting with ideas gnawing at our subconscious which made it hard to focus on anything else besides the future of this product we all believed in! It was great to see all the founders passionate and ready to to make the necessary strides to bring this thing into fruition and into the hands of people everywhere who shrug when tasked with buying gifts for the “dudes who have it all.” We clinked some cold ones and said “cheers” to the future.

And When We Don’t…

Thanks for coming along for the ride!
