My Birthday Wish — Do Good

Today I turn 39. It’s not a milestone. It’s actually kinda depressing. The last year of my 30s. Another year and almost another decade done and gone. I don’t feel almost 40, but alas it’s true, I’m almost 40.

Reflecting on this past year and next year to come has made me realize that I really just want to do good. It motivates me to get up every day, even if my almost 40-year-old body begs to stay in bed. I must do good to continue to love my wife more and more. I must do good to raise my kids to be world changers. I must do good to make a difference.

So today, my only birthday wish is for you to join me and do some good. Will you join me?

You might say, what does it mean to “do good”? For me, doing good is simply willfully and strategically making a positive impact in someone’s life. This could be making a meal, giving a ride, donating to a charity, and many, many other small to large ways.

I’ve compiled just a few worthwhile opportunities that are near and dear to me.

  • www.simissions.org — my parent’s missionary work in Portugal and around the world
  • www.shareinter.org — my good friend Osman Kabia doing important work in Sierra Leone
  • www.ugandanwaterproject.com — my good friend James Harrington providing water in Uganda and other places
  • fingerlakespc.com — Crisis Pregnancy Centers of Central NY — support and care for pregnant mothers as well as help for new mothers and their children
  • www.spcaonline.com — SPCA of Tompkins county. Dogs and cats need a loving home
  • www.loaves.org — Free food and support for anyone in need

There are many other causes, non-profits, charities, and areas of need that this list wouldn’t ever be complete. Please do good as your heart leads and let me know. It would make my birthday extra special.

Thank you.

Oh and eat more bacon. It’s really good. Like these caramel maple bacon cupcakes. Find the recipe here.
