Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow. (Psalm 144:4)

Just this week it hit me how close we are to Thanksgiving and how the business of the Christmas season makes the month of December speed along just behind. My kids will be halfway done with another school year in the blink of an eye, and August seems like yesterday. Time passes so fast.

It makes the words of the Psalmist hit home especially hard this morning.

Our days are numbered and they are passing by with seemingly increasing speed.

Such a reflection makes me cling all the more to the promise we have of eternal life through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. (Hebrews 7:24–25 ESV)

Let us number our days and draw near to our only real hope — our perfect priest.

He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself. (Hebrews 7:27 ESV)

The price for the sins of the believer have been paid. We have a perfect priest ready to intercede for us. Believe in him and draw near to God today.

Today’s scripture comes from the M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan. Day 317.
