Genesis 3; Matthew 3; Ezra 3; Acts 3

Oh the curse of sin brought upon us by Adam! It doomed us to a life of toil. Our work is filled with thorns and thistles, and pain and death are inescapable. And not a one of us can navigate this life without encountering real experience with sin.

The curse is real.

And yet, even after the first great sin, God did not shun Adam.

“And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.” Genesis 3:21.

God cared for Adam and Eve. God never stopped loving his people. Even in their sin.

He was the first Father to stoop down to help his children recover from their folly, making them clothes that they wouldn’t have even needed but for their own disobedience.

God still loved his children.

The gesture was a small foreshadowing of the infinitely greater provision to come.

His name was Jesus, and he was God himself, come to this earth to save Adam and the rest of humanity from our sin.

Jesus was perfection.

The one of who God said,

“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17

The rebuilt temple of Ezra was but a dim glimpse of the ultimate temple. Jesus was the true temple. Jesus was the true sacrifice.

“For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever ...” Ezra 3:11

Jesus was good. Jesus came to break the curse, and he did!

“Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things.” Acts 3:19–21

Thanks to the loving kindness of our Savior the curse is broken and all things will be restored.

Oh what a marvelous day that will be, when we will at last be reunited with the God who cares for us, who loves us, and who would do anything for us.

All things will be restored. The curse is broken! We have only to believe in Jesus.

Soon we will live forever with the one whose steadfast love endures forever.
