The sky was a perfect deep blue. The osprey was busy looking for lunch, so it gave me a great opportunity to capture them both.

The Lighthouse is now managed by the US Coast Guard. It was named as a National Historic site in 1974. The light was lit by a light keeper from 1884 to 1949, when it was automated. Here is a wide shot of the light and the keeper’s home.

The light is anchored on the eastern end of the island. Island residents first petitioned for a light in 1833, so it took over 50 years to get the light installed. When the light was being built, the ship that carried the iron for construction sank and divers had to recover pieces of the tower.

Saturday is blue or pink at Daily Colors. These photos were taken by the author on Sanibel Island in October of 2019.
