Connecting with Other Women

Aching for friendship
wishing sisterly connection
a warm squeeze from a hand
smiles exchanged

words shared
lightening the load
embracing until we meet again
over tea, in cracked mugs

kinship
over mothering,
men, insecurities
dreams and future longings

communion
with other hearts
beating and struggling
trying to make meaning

out of what often feels
thankless
grateful for raucous laughter
sweet tea, and a biscuit
