I Walk a Darkling Forest

A Sedoka Poem for NaPoWriMo 2019

When slumber steals me
I walk a darkling forest
By light of the dreaming moon
Nightmare demons hunt
But the Elven Queen protects
Guiding me to morning light

This is my sixteenth poem for NaPoWriMo 2019 and is my first attempt at a sedoka.

Sedoka is a form of unrhymed Japanese poetry that consists of two katauta with the syllable structure 5/7/7 - 5/7/7.

Katauta is a three-line poetry form with either a 5/7/5 or a 5/7/7 syllable structure. A single katauta is often considered to be incomplete or a half-poem.

The two katauta that make up a sedoka should work as stand-alone poems although they can address the same subject.
