#217. In the moment
I’m constantly thinking about the past and the future. I always backtrack, thinking about what I could’ve done better, and how my life would be if I did. I constantly plan, going through things I can possibly do in the future, Most of the time these thoughts are harmless and don’t last very long. Other times, it leads me down a rabbit hole of regret, excitement, or fear. When that happens I try to catch myself, and make sure I’m living in the moment.
When you’re living in the moment, regrets aren’t on your mind. Living in the moment entails focus, it entails that the only thing on your mind is what you’re doing right now.
If I really want to handle my business here in the present, I have to live in the moment. I have to focus on the task at hand, not what happened in the past, not what will happen in the future.
There’s nothing wrong with looking back at the past, looking at what you did wrong and what you did right. There’s nothing wrong with being excited about what might happen in the future.
But, I have to realize, that the past and the future are untouchable. I cannot control what happened in the past. I cannot control what will happen in the future. I can only control what I do with my life in the moment.
I have to live in the moment so my past mistakes aren’t in vain. I have to focus on the here and now, so my future won’t be bleak.
I have so much to do now.
I have so much that is important now.
I have work to do now.
I have a life to live now.
Focusing on the past or the future isn’t going to help.
