The world’s smallest periodic table was also one of the world’s smallest birthday gifts: it was a present to Professor Martyn Poliakoff for his birthday in December 2010. Scientists used an ion beam and an electron microscope to etch the table onto one of his hairs, creating a table that was 89.67 microns wide and 46.39 microns tall.
