Look Up Not Out

“No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a change of heart produced by the Spirit. And a person with a changed heart seeks praise from God, not from people.”
In a world full of hacks, lists, and how-to’s, we can easily miss what is important. Everyone is looking for “10 ways to …” and “15 top hacks for …”. But rules aren’t what really matters. Your heart is.
We can easily start to measure ourself by alignment to rules. The more we put in place, the easier it is to measure, and the more comfortable we get. With morning routines and checklists, we have taken the heart out of many things.
However, it is a changed heart that brings you into the kingdom. Even if you manage to check every box in being a christian, like:
- pray
- read bible
- go to church
- tithe
- volunteer
- whatever else
you will have still missed everything.
God is looking for a changed heart that confides in and looks to Him.
The changed heart is content in knowing what God thinks of him or her, and has no need of outside validation.
Forget influencers and powerful people. Seek one thing, praise from God.
Challenge
Take a look at the things in your life that may be giving you anxiety.
- Do you feel others are achieving and you are not?
- Do you feel you are playing catch up?
- Do you find yourself trying to be part of group of successfuls and push to achieve more?
These are all signs you are looking for approval outside of your relationship with God. You are looking for someone, who is human just like you, to give you fulfillment. This will never happen.
Start to look at every activity and motive, and direct it to praising God. Said another way, “try to make God proud of you” in everything you do.
Start small such as the way you drive, and work up to more important things. Make your entire life focusing on God rather than everyone else. The effects will be exponential!
