SPORTS: LIVE VS ON TV

In my opinion…

Most sports are better to watch on TV. The broadcasts have become great at capturing the best experience of the sport. As with all things there are drawbacks vs watching live. However I have found the experience to be more enjoyable for me more often by watching the broadcasts vs being there live.

The sports I am referring to are…

Football…definitely

Basketball…definitely

Soccer…definitely

Golf…definitely

Baseball…for the most part

Cycling…definitely

Cricket…have no idea, I still don’t understand it

Boxing/MMA…TV is pretty good but I have never been live so I don’t know.

However, in my opinion, there are two sports that are much better live than on TV.

The first is Hockey. Maybe in the future when latency is closer to 0 or virtual reality TV is a thing TV will be better. But right now I think being in the arena watching a game live is the better experience.

The second is Horse Racing. While it is a sport that no matter your vantage point you can’t see the whole race, the experience of watching it live is so much better than watching it on TV. That could be the broadcaster’s fault. I’m not sure. My intuition says it is just a sport that was created to watch live.

So if you ever get a chance to watch Hockey or Horse Racing live, go do it. At least once. It is a great experience, even if you aren’t a fan or gamble.

All the best,

Jason
