Chapter 2 — Verse 64
raagadveshaviyuktoustu vishayaanindriyaishcharan
aatmaavashayairvidyeyaatmaa prasaadamadhigacchati
Summary
He who is self controlled attains peace who approaches objects with the senses which are devoid of love and hatred and are under his own control.
The natural way of the senses is characterised by love and hatred. The senses either love to touch or experience something or they do not. One who seeks liberation, however, approaches unavoidable objects by means of his senses, ear, eye, etc., which are free from attachment and aversion and which are under his control. In effect, these senses are under the sway of the disciplined mind. He whose self, the inner sense or mind, has been disciplined attains serenity or peace.
Chapter 2 — Verse 65
prasaade sarvadukhaanaam haanirasyopajaayate
prasannachetaso hyaashu buddhihi paryavatishtate
Summary
In peace there is an end to all miseries. This is because, the reason of the tranquil-mind soon becomes steady.
One the attainment of peace or serenity, there is an end to all the miseries of all the devotees’s miseries that are pertaining to his mind and body. Buddhi of the pure-minded person soon becomes steady, pervading on all sides like the akaasha. Meaning, it remains steadfast in the form of the Self.
The person whose heart is pure and whose mind is steady has achieved his objective which is to achieve liberation and to be at peace (serenity).
