It’s Just a Day

Tomorrow will just be a day too — full of as much possibility as you choose

Today is the next-to-the-last day of the year, a Saturday. Any ol’ day really but it feels like more. There is expectation and hope, excitement and reflection with the coming of the new year.

I accepted a full time position a month and half ago and have been working extra hard, extended hours — learning, proving myself, settling in. I’ve had less me-time, less family time, less time to write, less down time altogether. So I crawled into bed earlier than usual last night with the intention of waking with daylight and doing exactly what I wanted this weekend — all to prepare for the turn of the year.

I mindfully sipped tea. I wrote Morning Pages and hiked our woods in the new fallen snow. I consciously breathed. I reflected on the good (and bad) of last year, and turned my attention to the things I wish to create in the next.

The day’s been mundane — and beautiful. I want for little else. And I realized it’s just a day, like any other day.

Whether it’s the thirtieth of December, the tenth of April or September nineteenth, I’m always finding joy in the same things. If I had ‘x’ amount of time, these are the things I do, the activities I look forward to …

Journal. Write.

Spend time in nature.

Eat yummy food + drink great beer and wine!

Enjoy quality time with my loves.

I’m setting intentions for the new year today.

I’m spending my down time doing the things I love.

But it’s just a day.

There’s nothing special about today. Or tomorrow. Or the next day.

It’s all about intention, and that’s something we can cultivate every day of the year.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy, prosperous, intentional 2018 — filled with many days that are ‘just days,’ days that allow you to be as intentional as you choose.
