I’m Heather Sage, Professional Writer turned Yoga Teacher turned Content Strategist turned Bullet Journist and Conscious Creator … do these labels really matter?

What I do professionally aligns with my soul, but it is here that I offer you my heart. I created this publication as an outlet, a compilation of personal writing and conscious creations — mostly to help me figure out what’s moving through. I hope you find it useful too. I do write for other Medium publications; find all of my other personal writing here.

Yoga, nature, mindfulness, embodiment practice and the things I read inform a lot of my content. I hail from Southeastern Ohio, and live in the middle of the woods on 19 acres with my husband, teen daughter, three dogs and 13 chickens. We eloquently call our place the 19.

I write to make sense of life in the hopes that it resonates with others. I am a life-long learner and I love to educate and inspire others. Most of my articles are about mindfulness, everyday embodiment, living our yoga and practical spirituality. You may also find some of my favorite quotes and pieces on personal development/productivity.

Bio

Yoga Educator

I am an E-RYT (registered yoga teacher) 200 certified in Integrative Hatha Yoga from Samyoga Institute. I teach from this perspective, as well as incorporating Vinyasa, EmbodiYoga, Yin, and Restorative. Practices are well rounded, challenging students to find their edge while respecting their bodies and most classes are heart-centered, philosophy and breath-based and introspective in nature.

I found yoga in 1998, became certified to teach in 2007, and am accredited by the National Yoga Alliance. I am also a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT).

I have certification and/or extensive coursework in Vinyasa, Pranayama, Yoga Anatomy, Prenatal, Yin, Restorative, Somatic Meditation, Trauma Sensitive Yoga, the Yoga Sutras, Yoga for Athletes, Storytime Yoga, Thai Yoga Massage, and am currently enrolled in EmbodiYoga’s 300 hour teacher training where I’m learning, applying and teaching a more embodied approach of the practice. I will have the designation of RYT 500 upon completion.

As an adjunct professional on three regional Ohio University campuses, you’ll find me teaching asana, philosophy, pranayama, ayurveda and more every semester.

I also educate seniors about mindful movement at the local library, and share yoga, mindfulness and embodiment practices with cancer survivors through the cancer resource center of our local hospital.

Writing is the thing I’ve always done professionally, and quite accidentally. Within six months of graduation with a B.S. in Interpersonal Communication, I discovered I should have majored in Journalism — but it didn’t stop me from doing what I love.

Directly after completion of undergrad, I spent a few years in health education where I researched, wrote and taught youth programs throughout the local community. Immediately after, I was a social worker for a brief time in a larger quadruple-combined government agency, but found myself co-developing a work activity education program where writing and teaching were my primary roles. I began editing across departments, and wrote policy, procedure, web copy and curriculum before moving into a high-level project manager position. Press releases, requests for proposals (RFPs), grants, accreditation, more policy, procedure, and technical writing ruled those days.

Yoga helped me work through the anxiety and stress of social work and I pursued teacher training, leaving government work shortly thereafter. My current daily work consists of writing (content development, technical writing, copywriting, blogging), editing, proofreading, digital marketing strategy, and social media for a large non-profit within the economic development sphere.

The book

I’m working on a book, Yoga Prayers, about the 8 Limbs of Yoga. It’s been a long process and I hope to have it finished, edited, published and ready for purchase in 2018. Writing every day is giving me insight into other books that are in me just waiting to come out — stay tuned.
