Journal Prompts to get you started

I often think back to the first time I started journalling. My grandfather had passed away from cancer. I knew he was sick, but, being young, somehow felt he would recover and everything would eventually be back to normal. I had visited a few times, but living in another country, it was infrequent.

When I got news of his passing, I was stunned. He had taught us so much and loved us so much. I started writing, rambling at first, but eventually writing about how I felt and that I was thankful for all the time I managed to spend with him. That was my first gratitude journal entry, but I didn’t know it at the time.

All I knew was that writing down my thoughts had such a profound impact on me. That’s how my relationship with journalling started.

Today’s Prompts:

  1. Relationships / Time: What steps can you take to intentionally create more quality time with your loved ones?
  2. Self-reflection / Personal growth: What specific goals or outcomes do you hope to achieve through journaling, and how will they impact your personal growth?
  3. Quote of the day: “Just one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.” — Dalai Lama.
  4. The ‘If You Don’t Have Time’ Prompt: Who are you grateful for today? Describe why in 2 sentences.

Guiding Principles to Get the Most Out of Your Journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each to avoid feeling overwhelmed
  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.
  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.
  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.
  • Don’t stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don’t worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

Your Feedback Matters:

What was your favourite prompt of the day? Or did you hate them all? How can I improve the content of the newsletter? Reply this mail and let me know!

Keep growing,
