Peeling Back the Layers of Who We Really Are Inside
Whose onion would you like to peel?
It’s no secret that when it comes to human beings, we can all tend to be some interesting and yet very complex individuals.
When you really think about it, we’re all basically like the onions you see in the photo; each one of us with multiple layers to who we really are.
As l think back over the past 4 years that I’ve been rooted in one place, writing and sharing stories about myself, I realize that I’ve peeled back quite a few layers and exposed who I am.
My online community of friends that I’ve been able to get close to during this time, had managed to evolve into a pseudo family in my head.
Having grown up in the foster care system, learning to accept the fulfillment that can come from surrogate families in place of your flesh and blood relatives, is something that comes easy to me.
Perhaps that’s why I found myself experiencing a negative emotional reaction to policy changes affecting my once beloved community.
I recently wrote about my “low spirits” connected to this issue, in one of my new Substack newsletters (My Online Community Used to be My Family).
