What’s Going on with this New YouTube Feature I Just Got Invited to Try?
This new feature is supposed to help them create a better informed YouTube community

Raise your hand if you got an email notification from YouTube, inviting you to try out, or rather: “Pilot a new feature” they recently launched.
It seems that the YouTube team is on a mission to try and improve the content quality of the videos on their platform.
Their focus is on added quality for their online audience.
Clearly, there’s a lot of that going around, based on some of the changes currently taking place on Medium, that also relate to content quality.
So how exactly is YouTube approaching this issue, and what do they have in mind, to address it effectively?
According to the email I received, they explained it like this:
We’re inviting you to pilot a new YouTube feature that allows you to add helpful notes to videos. These notes will provide additional information and create a better-informed YouTube community.
Sounds good in theory, but what does that look like, you might be asking.
Here’s how it works:
Once you’re eligibile to leave notes, if you happen to come across a video that you find to be either confusing or inaccurate after viewing it, you now have the option of submitting a note to YouTube, in an effort to provide clarification, and/or accurate details.
You could possibly have your submission added to the information panel below the video.
But first, YouTube will have your contribution reviewed by:
“others with a wide range of views to ensure their quality and helpfulness”
They further explain that the submitted note will not only be reviewed, but also rated.
If it is found to be rated as helpful by a number of people with a variety of perspectives, YouTube may choose to publish the information you submitted, so it…
