Have you ever heard of Jekyll Island? It’s a barrier island off the southern coast of Georgia known for its beautiful beaches and abundant wildlife. Those are two things that Amy and I love. So it wasn’t hard for Amy to say yes when I told her I had planned a week for us to stay at a beachside resort on Jekyll Island in August.
This was while Amy and I were still dating. We had met online nearly a year before. I lived on the East Coast in New Jersey near Philadelphia and Amy lived on the West Coast in California near Los Angeles so dating was truly a bicoastal affair. Our first in-person date was January 2, 2014. I left work early to catch an afternoon non-stop to LA from Philadelphia. Amy would pick me up at LAX in her Jeep and off we would go. Amy had picked Moonstone Beach for our first date, a beautiful little beach town 200 miles north on the coast from LA. We had a fabulous weekend exploring the elephant seal rookery, Hearst Castle, and the sights of Big Sur.
