A love for sea and land animals and a magical day
Theater of the Sea
By Bruce White
Jack, our Jack Russell terrier, is the third in the line of Jack Russells that Amy has adopted. First came Badger, a larger version of Jack. Next was Gambit, Jack’s size but with a fair bit of chihuahua in him. Gambit passed away in 2023 at age 17.
When Amy and I first moved to Florida we rented a condo in Punta Gorda while we looked for the house we bought in Englewood. We explored quite a bit of Florida at this time: camping on the Gulf in the Panhandle, an all day boat tour in the Everglades, and the crewed Space-X launch on the Space Coast. But maybe the greatest thing we found was The Theater of the Sea in the Keys on Islamorada.
We set out to explore the Keys and Theater of the Sea was one place we especially wanted to visit. It has dolphin, sea lion, and parrot shows, and they also rehabilitate injured sea turtles and make them available to small private parties to feed. For a small price, we signed up for a half hour of feeding the sea turtles. Best of all, small, well-behaved dogs were allowed, so Gambit could join us.
