A Cheap Way to Treat Yourself When Being Tight on Budget
Budgeting is unpopular because it often feels like being on a fun diet.
In our consumer-oriented society “treating yourself” is often connected to spending money on a shopping spree, eating out in a fancy restaurant, or booking that lush wellness getaway for the weekend. This makes it incredibly hard to stick to a given budget because that often makes us feel like sacrificing.
Like diets that are based on lifestyle change rather than pure sacrifice tend to yield better long-term results, you can apply a similar strategy when being tight on money.
Instead of suffering in frustration go look for cheap or even cost-free ways to “treat yourself.”
For starters, check out your local public library. You can go there and browse through the vast amount of books, pick some of them as you would in the store and then carry home your new acquisitions.
Set yourself up with a nice cup of tea and indulge in a great story.
Most libraries have additional services like DVD rental, an electronic service for renting out e-books and audiobooks as well as board games or children’s toys. Plus the added benefit that a library is one of the few public places left where you can stay for hours without the unspoken expectation of spending money.
