How I (Accidentally) Found Online Writing As a Path to Career Freedom
It was in August 2020 when I made my first cent from online writing.
Back then, I was miserably stuck in my 9–5 as a corporate maintenance engineer. What used to be an interesting and rewarding profession became loathsome due to office politics, egocentric managers, and ridiculous restructuring for the sake of itself. When credible rumors about big-time layoffs got around, I knew this job wasn’t for the long term.
It was about that time when I finished a certification in Data Science, where our last task was to publish our final project report online.
Preferably on Medium or our blog for that public accountability.
Finding Medium and publishing there literally changed my life. Not only did it provide an abundance of great-quality content, but moreover, a community of like-minded people gathered around a specific lifestyle. I met online freelancers, solopreneurs, and digital nomads living their best life while living off online business in the broader sense.
To be blunt, a work-from-anywhere lifestyle fueled by internet money sounded exhilarating.
As a corporate cog in the wheel in an extremely conservative industry, it even felt unreal.
