Lord, How Is It?

John 14:22 (KJV)
Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?

Every caring Christian has wondered about this and maybe even wished it weren’t so.

  • We want to see people saved
  • We want to see people in heaven and not hell
  • We want to see people believe in and trust Jesus Christ

But wanting it doesn’t make it happen.

We can get frustrated, can’t we, that people we care about do not see the same obvious truths in the Bible we see.

And we are likely to question the Lord about it, “How is it?”

I think the question can be in a couple of different ways:

  • Why is Jesus manifested to us and not the world?
  • How is it that a person can see Jesus unlike the world?

The answer seems to be the same in both cases; it is a faith issue. One has to “keep his words” and then everything else falls into place. This doesn’t mean that obeying the commands of the Bible is what saves us. It means that we accept the Word of God.

  • We believe what it says about: sin, Jesus, eternity.
  • We call upon Christ as instructed in the Bible.
  • We respond to His overtures of love

and then He, through the Holy Spirit, reveals himself to us.
