The Lamb and the Lion
Revelation 6:1 (KJV)
And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
It was the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, Jesus, who had prevailed to open the seals of the book. But it was the Lamb, Jesus, who opened the first seal. There is the love of God, even in the act of bringing judgment upon the world.
When Jesus came the first time it was as “the Lamb of God that taketh the away the sin of the world.” When He comes the second time it will be as the Lion of the tribe of Judah to judge those who hold the truth in unrighteousness.
This passage serves to remind us that the Lion never loses His lamb-like qualities. “This same Jesus which was taken up … shall so come”.[1] The judge of the earth lives to love and to save. During the Tribulation, when men will be tried so terribly for their sin, the Bible teaches us the multitudes without number will be saved.[2]
In the midst of terrible trouble, even then all who will look to the Lamb will be forgiven, saved, and reconciled to God.
