A while ago I read “Making Ideas Happen” by Scott Belsky. Below are some of the top tips that I found in that book. Use them to climb the pathway to success.

1. It is essential to learn how to market yourself and your product since “…we can all agree that your ability to access the resources and opportunities in your community is dependent upon others recognizing your qualifications, your initiative, and your interests.” (p. 149)

2. “Marketing should not be seen as fake. At its best, marketing is building relationships-and learning.” Sarah Horowitz, Freelancers Union (p. 150) “This is perhaps why the most successful marketing is not conducted as a cooked-up, one off campaign, but as an ongoing aspect of brand development that stems from an authentic place. Rather than coming off as distastefully self-promotional, the best marketing builds respect.” (P. 151)

3. “A good self-marketing strategy should start with intrinsic interests that can become personal projects — projects that demonstrate your strengths. As your strengths become utilized, people will start to respect you for something that is real — something that is earned.” (p.153)

4. “…unique features can be regarded as strengths or weaknesses depending on how they are communicated.” (p. 154)

5. Develop a communication strategy: “Be introspective and advocate for the unique perspective that you bring to every project and problem.” (p. 154)

6. Execute your communication strategy by featuring your strengths through candid posts about what you are working on that will engage people. (p. 154)

7. Figure out what “frequency” you want to project and work to promote it to the people who will be receptive to it. (p. 155–156). Be willing and able to change frequencies as needed to be attractive to new audiences. (P. 156–157)
