Realizations after an ‘almost’ disaster
A common question I have been asked in almost every tech-job-interview since completing my graduation is that ‘why is your CGPA comparatively low in compare to your diploma engineering result? Didn’t having a 4-years long diploma engineering helped you in undergraduate study life?’
Being an IT graduate luckily CGPA does matter at all but my projects, work, dedication on this field mattered so far but yes, if I had a better CGPA that could help me to achieve big dreams easily. Now, sometimes, I have to check alternative way or I have to do something ‘extra’ which keeps in the race with others.
Yes, diploma engineering degree helped me a lot but I have found out some things for which I couldn’t make a such CGPA for which I could achieve titles like ‘Cum Laude’ or ‘ Summa Cum Laude’. Reasons are explained below:
- Overconfidence: Most of the basic core courses like C programming, Discrete Mathematics, Data Structure, Digital Logic were done by me in diploma engineering so I was very much confident that I am going to get a good grade in the course. Usually I use to skip reading home after class lectures while doing those courses. I used to study only before the mid or final exams for those courses. So, these one night study did help me get an average grade but didn’t help me to get an excellent result.
- Not doing complete assignments: I used to start doing assignments just a day before the final deadline. So, I had to hurry and these super fast assignments had bugs in the code, shorten answers and other basic errors. Most of the time, I didn’t get time to recheck because I used to finish on the eleventh hour!
- Not able to continue in same way till the end: After second year I really became serious and started studying properly but I was never health conscious. I started doing everything properly for study but I was not used to take care of my health. So, for a 3/3.5 months long semester, I used to get good marks till second mid and then my health started to fall down. Because I used to stay in the campus for the whole day. I used to go to campus in the morning and after classes I used to study in the library till 9/9.30pm. I had to take foods from outside and mostly I used to take food in random times for which I had to cost a lot.
Though I had ups and downs but I managed to secure some very good grades after realizing my faults. Thanks god, or else I had to get a below average result which will be a disaster for me!
