Day 8: When You Gotta Squeeze in All the Time You Can
Hi friends. I missed the whole weekend. I had a lot of fun and paid for it this morning before work.
Here’s an update on how many words I wrote over those 3 days: 2,665 words for my novel on Saturday.
Does it look puny? Sure, for the pessimist. For the optimist, it’s me finding the time and buckling down to write this many words in 90 minutes. It’s the optimist that sees what they can accomplish in that short time and makes a bigger goal of writing 10,000 words in maybe 5 hours.
I don’t want to think it’s bad to only have so many words, and I don’t want you to feel that way either.
If you wrote 5,000 words, you’re fantastic. If you wrote 500, you’re fantastic. I think we put too much pressure on ourselves to try to do “so many words in a time/day/etc.” We hear it everywhere that there should be a certain amount to attain to.
I want us to think more about the quality and not the quantity. If we can sit down for a few minutes to write, that matters way more than if we tried hitting a number and failing.
So, tomorrow, I am going to focus on using the time when I get home to write. I don’t care about the word count. I just care that I write.
