[Part of our series “ABCs for Managers…”]
How 140 characters can replace an entire book
If you are still reading and because I am still writing, the meaning of this post has already been defeated. Nevertheless, I will make a longer, still brief but completely redundant attempt on the value of brevity
- Brevity is not short, it is sufficient
- Brevity does not imply incompleteness, it is independent
- Brevity does not indulge our five senses, it provokes our mind
- Brevity is not inability of expression, it is the presence of clarity
- Brevity does not stop conversations, it spawns new thoughts
So when Peter Thiel mentioned in the Founder’s Fund manifesto “We wanted flying cars, instead we got 140 characters.” he missed the point. And even the owners of the 140 character-based site miss it.
Brevity (in communication) requires the highest levels of thought and comprehension. And communication is after all what separated us & advances us as a species.
