A 20-year-old man was indicted Tuesday on two felony counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals in the deaths of two puppies, announced Dallas County Criminal District Attorney John Creuzot.

Sebastian Acosta was arrested on one animal cruelty charge after two puppies were found dead on April 7. The Dallas Police Department filed the charge on April 28.

After reviewing the case, the district attorney’s office filed an additional charge. Two cases were presented to a Dallas County grand jury, which returned the indictments Tuesday.

Acosta was captured on video taking two white Pyrenees puppies from a truck and carrying them into a wooded area in the 2400 block of Dowdy Ferry Road. He was also seen holding a log. The video footage recorded the sound of the puppies “crying out in distress” and thuds, according to police records.

Once the puppies are silent and the thudding stops, Acosta is seen getting into the truck and leaving. The owners of the camera that recorded the event called the police, and investigators found the puppies’ bodies and bloodied logs, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.

The cases are being handled by the DA’s specialized animal cruelty unit.

Acosta was also indicted Tuesday on a felony charge of manufacturing or delivery of a controlled substance.
