On Saturday, Israelis woke up to a brutal and unprecedented attack from Hamas, killing and wounding hundreds of civilians.

The City of Dallas strongly condemns these acts of terrorism and stands in solidarity with the people and State of Israel, who are now at war. I will be introducing a resolution on Wednesday for the Dallas City Council to formalize Dallas’ condemnation of this attack and our support for Israel.

Please take a moment to reflect on the hundreds of lives lost to these brazen acts of terrorism that have shaken Israelis’ sense of safety. The City of Dallas will continue to stand up for humanity around the world and to stand against such horrific acts of violence and mayhem wherever they occur.

A Bustling, Growing Airport

DFW Airport — the second busiest airport in the world — hosted a State of the Airport event on Monday and reported that this summer had some of the busiest days in its five decades of serving Dallas and the region. In fact, June 30, 2023 was the busiest day in the airport’s 50-year history, with 281,000 passengers making their way through the airport’s terminals.

Travel demand is up, and DFW Airport has now officially exceeded pre-pandemic traffic levels. To prepare, DFW Airport — for which I proudly serve as a member of the Board of Directors — plans to expand and modernize to remain a world-class airport.

DFW’s sixth terminal, Terminal F, is expected to begin construction next year and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026. Terminals A and C will expand by adding a total of nine new gates. Terminal C will also be remodeled.

DFW Airport is an amazing asset that is one of the main economic drivers for this fast-growing region, which is anchored by Dallas. The airport provides growth opportunities for businesses and residents alike because it is Dallas’ most prominent connection to destinations and economies around the world. It also brings visitors from nearly every continent to Dallas every day.

The new Terminal F and improvements to Terminals A and C will build on a long history of success and position the airport — and this city — for future growth and success.

Red River Showdown

The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Oklahoma put on a real show Saturday at the packed Cotton Bowl at Dallas’ Fair Park. Although the Longhorns did not take the Golden Hat home, they played an excellent game against a strong opponent.

Watching this historic rivalry, set at the Great State Fair of Texas, is already a treat, but it’s also wonderful to reconnect with old friends at the game, such as Dr. Cliff Croomes, the 15th Director of the Texas Longhorns Marching Band (and the first African American ever to lead the Longhorn band).

Can’t wait for next year’s edition of the Red River Showdown!

Now, let’s go Cowboys and Rangers!
