I sat down with The Washington Post’s Karen Tumulty to discuss why Dallas stands out among America’s big cities.

Dallas truly is the place to be. And this city is rightfully capturing the attention of a national audience. You’ll definitely want to read Karen’s full column here!

While other top 10 cities such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia are now known more for declining populations and increasing violent crime, Dallas has clearly united behind a “back-to-basics” agenda that has yielded impressive results. Karen was right to describe Dallas as a notable “exception” among its peers.

Of the nation’s largest cities, Dallas is the only one to buck the trend of rising violent crime two years in a row (and counting!). And a recent survey conducted by Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group revealed that 85% of this city’s residents believe that their Dallas neighborhood is safe.

Given the national crime trends over the past few years, these results are incredible. Dallas residents should feel proud to call this city home.

Two more days

It is hard to believe that the City of Dallas will host the inauguration of the new Dallas City Council in less than two days.

This ceremony offers an opportunity to celebrate Dallas’ achievements over the past four years and to usher in four more years of undeniable progress.

Recently, I enjoyed reflecting on the 2021–2023 Dallas City Council term and discussing this administration’s top three priorities for the upcoming term with CBS News Texas political reporter Jack Fink. Watch the full interview here!

A world-class hotel experience

Hôtel Swexan is now open for hotel stays and dining. It brings yet another world-class hotel experience to Dallas!

This hotel is a fusion of Swiss heritage and Texan hospitality in the heart of Dallas’ Harwood District. It marks Harwood International and the Barbier-Mueller Family’s 12th development within the 19-city-block District.

You’ll want to check out this truly immersive experience that offers 134 boutique rooms, five unique food and beverage concepts, panoramic rooftop views of Dallas, and world-renowned design by Tokyo-based Kengo Kuma & Associates.

There is so much to explore in this building. It was ingeniously designed to mirror several horizontal blocks of New York City in a vertical hotel structure.

Thank you to Harwood International and the Barbier-Mueller Family for your continued investment in Dallas!

Most important job title

It is the privilege of a lifetime to serve as the mayor of the greatest city in the United States. However, my most important title will always be “Dad.” And William, George, and Lela sure have one proud dad!

Happy Father’s Day!

Take care of yourselves and each other.
