On Saturday, we opened another brand new park in Dallas.

Harwood Park is a must-visit, innovative green space located in the heart of downtown. The park spans four acres and covers areas that used to be surface parking lots and vacant buildings. In addition to pickleball courts, a splash zone fountain, and an impressive amount of green space for residents to enjoy downtown, the most conspicuous and unique features of the park are mammoth-themed playground structures.

Learn more about this one of a kind new park and the incredible work of advocates, including the Downtown Dallas Parks Conservancy, that led to its completion here.

Dallas has become a national model for excellence in developing innovative green spaces like Harwood Park, and I could not be more excited about the direction this city is going in terms of increasing access to parks, trails, and other green spaces.

A vibrant park system creates opportunities for kids and families like mine growing up — those without big backyards or swimming pools or private country club or gym memberships — to experience a decent quality of life.

This administration is prioritizing new green spaces all residents in Dallas can enjoy and is striving to ensure Dallas has the best park system in the State of Texas. Saturday’s opening of Harwood Park was an important step towards making this goal a reality.

New City Budget

Last week, the City Council finalized and approved a budget for the new fiscal year that begins on October 1. Read my statement on why I voted against the largest budget in the city’s history here.

International Updates

The City of Dallas recently hosted the city’s first ever International Night Market, a celebration of the city’s cultural diversity and status as an international hub. The seven-hour long event provided an opportunity for residents and vendors from all over the world to showcase their food, art, entertainment, and other contributions to Dallas. The event took place in the newly opened Dallas International District.

A priority of this administration is to increase Dallas’s foreign direct investment and standing on the world stage. This event and others that will soon be held in the city’s International District are ways of advancing this goal.

The International District is already home to a new French Trade Office, which opened thanks to efforts made by this administration’s International Advisory Council. With two centrally located airports, including the second busiest in the world with nonstop flights to numerous international destinations, Dallas is well positioned to become the hot spot for international trade in the U.S. and already is the destination of choice for global corporate headquarter relocations.

More positive news related to this mayoral priority are coming soon.

North Texas Giving Day

Last week, Dallas celebrated North Texas Giving Day, a day that highlights the generosity of the city’s philanthropic community and encourages those who are able to give to contribute to local non-profit organizations serving the community. Dallas is a national hub for charitable giving, which has been critical to helping the city persevere through seemingly impossible challenges over the past four years. Learn more about North Texas Giving Day and read about the record breaking fundraising total achieved this year of $63.9 million here.

That is all for today. Sending best wishes to our Jewish community in Dallas and those around the world observing Yom Kippur. May your fast be meaningful and the day be one of reflection, peace, and renewal. G’mar Chatimah Tova.
