When it comes to dance moves, many come straight out of fun, popular, dance music videos.

While some have been easy to replicate, others appear easy –but are surprisingly difficult to perfect. Still, attempting these moves can be fun, and a great way to get started in the world of dance. Short, catchy moves can also be a great way to break out of your comfort zone, helping you to build confidence and have an all-around good time.

From classic moves originating in the 60’s to today’s Gangnam Style, let’s take a look at some of the dance moves that have been, and remained popular over the years.

1. Gangnam Style Horse Dance — PSY

Like it or not, the Gangnam style horse dance is one of the most popular dance moves that captured the world, and is the latest in a long line of dance moves that the world has latched onto. Perhaps because of the easy steps involved with the dance, and the extremely catchy nature of the song, everyone knows of the dance and can at least partially recreate the moves.

2. Moonwalk — Michael Jackson

In 1983, Michael Jackson started the trend by capturing the world with his dance move the “Moonwalk.” While most of the world probably doesn’t know how to properly reenact the moonwalk the way it was originally intended, that doesn’t stop them from trying! Ask anyone how to do the Moonwalk, and you will probably be greeted by their own version of what might resemble the popular dance move.

3. Walk Like an Egyptian — The Bangles

In 1986 The Bangles told everyone to “Walk Like an Egyptian,” and the world did! The popular song quickly turned into an iconic dance move that has been popular ever since. The “Walk Like an Egyptian” dance move is another relatively easy dance move that doesn’t require too much practice to perfect. Fun, and easy to learn moves have helped to make these dance moves a favorite across the world.

4. Line Dance — Billy Ray Cyrus

While line dancing is a dance that has been around for years, Billy Ray Cyrus made it even more popular with his well-known song “Achy Breaky Heart” in 1992. If you are looking for a great song to line dance to, this music video will fit the bill nicely. So get your boots and some friends, and start your line dance. And have a boot-stomping good time!

5. The Robot — Michael Jackson

Another winner by Michael Jackson, this move deserves a mention too. In 1967, the dance move known as “The Robot” was created. The Robot is a relatively easy dance move in which dancers move their limbs to mimic a robot. The Robot gained popularity after Michael Jackson performed the dance move with his song the “Dancing Machine.” Since then, “The Robot” has been a popular dance move that has been replicated countless times over the years.
