The world of dance, the most successful dancers all have something in common: the mindset to succeed. Excellent dancers are experienced, and along the way they’ve learned what it takes to dance beautifully.

Why not take a page out of their book? If you’re looking for a few tips to improve your dancing, here are a few things that great dancers know. Why not keep some of these facts in mind, and put them into practice the next time you are dancing? With a bit of practice, and dedication –you’ll soon be on your way to excellence!

Know That Dance is Hard Work

Dancers are athletes, and dancing requires a tremendous amount of flexibility, strength, and endurance. Natural talent will only take a dancer so far, and becoming a great dancer doesn’t happen overnight. Dance is hard work, and the best dancers realize this and aren’t deterred by any challenges that arise.

Love Dance

The best dancers love what they do, and are passionate about dance. The best way to keep motivated and dedicated is by loving what you do. If you truly love dance, you will naturally have more motivation, and will be far less likely to become discouraged.

Learn From Their Failures

The best dancers aren’t afraid of failure; rather they embrace their mistakes as opportunities and not roadblocks. Learning from your mistakes and continuing to improve is one of the best things you can do. Instead of getting down about failure, try to learn from your mistakes, identify what went wrong, and use it to motivate you to do better.

Know the Importance of Looking for Challenges

The best dancers know that it’s important to look for challenges, and to focus on learning new things. Looking for practice moves and concepts that are challenging is an excellent way to take your dance skills up a notch, and is one of the best ways to improve.

Know the Importance of Feedback

Great dancers realize the importance of feedback, and seek out advice and criticism at every opportunity. While ignoring feedback is easy on the ego, without feedback it can be difficult to know which aspects of dance you can improve. Your dance partner and instructor are great people to ask for feedback, and don’t underestimate the value of a mirror, and even video.

Realize That Information Isn’t Everything

The best dancers know that information doesn’t automatically translate into skills, or even knowledge. No matter how much you learn, it will be of little value unless it’s applied. Look for opportunities to apply concepts that you learn, this will help you to gain practical experience and will push you forward.

Believe They Can

Successful dancers believe that they can. They are passionate about what they do, and are confident and unwilling to accept defeat. In order to be successful, you’re going to have to face your fair share of challenges and disappointments, but it’s important to keep pressing on towards your goals, and stop at nothing to reach them.

Know Practice is Everything

The best dancers know that dance isn’t just about natural talent, it’s about practice. All of the best dancers have worked hard to get to where they are. Remember that you have the ability to improve! With hard work, you will be able to achieve your goals.

What do you think? Have you found any of these things to be true in your experience with dance? Which other concepts do great dancers know?
