Character defects all have something very much in common, FEAR. Dread, fear of something returning. Anger is the fear of getting something considered bad or painful. Anxiety, fear of losing something. Resentment, fear of the opinions of others.

Most of the time we are not even aware that we have the fear. The greatest fears are the fear of the unknown or the fear of death, which are pretty much the same.

Do you ever recall thinking of or actually entering an entirely new situation and the feeling of apprehension that may have been overwhelming?

Let’s begin with the biggest fear of all for many folks: the fear of death. The experience of death is the ultimate unknown to many if not most people.

Not many think of dying in the same way they would think of going to Disney World, but one would bring us joy in the planning, and the other would bring mental pain and anxiety that could be suffocating.

Now, one may wonder, if fear is so emotionally debilitating, what is the opposite of this fear? I seem to have plenty of courage and guts so why am I afraid?

The opposite of fear is not courage, bravery, guts, valor, or any of these types of attitudes. The opposite of fear is faith…
