I’ve been introspecting a lot lately. This Is Not an unusual thing being that I was recently diagnosed with stage 4 Cancer. I’m looking at my life and my patterns of doing things.

I’ve had a very good life, but I realize I never really learned how to relax. All I’ve learned is to meditate, listen to music, and even go on vacations every year. Still, all these things are a background to my work. I’m a writer a teacher and I love what I do, but at the same time, I don’t know how to relax. I realize this is not a personal trait it’s an American trait most Americans don’t know how to relax

It seems the American mind can’t comprehend taking more than a few weeks of vacation. A survey of 1,228 employees in the US and in Europe, recorded in September and October ’24, highlights one big difference between European and American workers’ habits.

In the US, around five in ten workers surveyed said they took less than 11 days off in the year, whereas in Europe, around six in ten workers reported taking at least 21 days off.

In fact, European workers who took more than 25 days off last year were the majority, whereas the same group represented the smallest percentage of American workers.
