The crackle of leaves underfoot and the rising of my frosted breath remind me the season is late. The trees lean, silent but for the drop of a leaf caught against a branch on the way down. A light thwack. The day moves slowly with no purpose beyond reaching tomorrow’s dawn, suffering through a night of freezing wind that’s just now rising.
